Zalipie and UNESCO churches
The painted village of Zalipie and fascinating wooden churches from the UNESCO list.
After a 1.5-hour journey we will reach reach the picturesque village of Zalipie, which is famous for its cottages painted in colourful floral motifs. The custom of decorating rural chambers with flowery paintings comes from the late nineteenth century. Here we will visit the house of Felicja Curyło, a talented painter from Zalipie who made this picturesque village famous. Then we will go on a journey to discover two famous wooden churches, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003: the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Binarowa and the Church of Sts. Philip and James the Apostles in Sękowa. We will continue our tour to Lipnica Murowana, a village famous for its competition for the highest palm held on Palm Sunday every year, and a wooden church of St. Leonard, also included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003.
